readers to solve. First, they must follow the clues to find
the buried treasure left centuries ago on Isla Perez off Chich’en Itza, Mexico, even though for centuries many
treasure hunters couldn’t find it. In more recent years,
archeologists, anthropologists and all kinds of adults have
tried to locate the treasure. 12-year old Andy and 10-year
old Carlito brave many dangers when they try to find this
lost treasure of the pirate Raphael. Andy has a second
mystery to solve – this character who shows up every day, getting him in big trouble. He calls himself Balam, the Mayan word for jaguar and looks like a kid in a jaguar costume but he makes magical and impossible things happen. Is he just a strange kid or is he what he claims to be – the 200-year-old jaguar king of the great Amazon Jungle? Young Readers learn about Mexican Culture, Archeology, learn Spanish and Mayan words and the book ends with Activity Pages. It also contains praises from celebrities and experts.
